Radio frequency (RF) energy has become a leading force in the aesthetics industry as physicians and manufacturers turn to it for its efficacy in treating several of the beauty issues patients face and the ability to treat all skin types. The Reaction by Viora is the only device that allows physicians to fully customize their treatments by offering an adjustable RF platform so that more procedures can be combined into one machine.
"We know that RF energy is one of the best energies around," says Dr. Matthew Schulman, a Board Certified plastic surgeon in New York and Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. "It's able to heat whatever layer of the skin you want to heat, with very little side effects in terms of burns and it's great for all skin types and all skin colors." This is different from laser energies, many of which cannot be used on certain darker skin colors because of the possibility of hyperpigmentation, which is the darkening of an area of skin.
Post 3 Treatments
Dr. Schulman likes the option of altering the frequency being used so that different treatments are available. "Reaction gives you the ability to change the frequency of the RF energy so you can change the depth of penetration. I know that if I'm trying to tighten the skin, I want to hit that deep dermis. If I'm trying to reduce fat, I want to go deeper into the subcutaneous tissue."
While there are other RF-based devices available, they don't offer the same options for changing your treatment frequency. "Other systems don't give you that ability to really customize your treatments. In order to go deeper with some of the other systems you have to push harder or you have to turn up the energy and as you increase the energy, you're increasing your chance for burns or other complications," says Dr. Schulman.
Post 2 Treatments
Reaction is a good option for patients who want to tighten the skin on their face, but aren't looking for a surgical solution. "When you have that patient who's 35-45, who may have some early signs of aging... but they're not quite ready for a facelift, or they are physically ready - but not mentally or financially ready, this gives a good option for them. It certainly won't replace a facelift, and I tell my patients right off the bat, 'this is not going to replace surgery,' but it will give most people a very reasonable improvement."
Dr. Schulman also points out that the Reaction by Viora isn't just for skin tightening, offers other improvements as well. "It really combines a lot of other treatments into one specific system so I'm able to do skin tightening, fat reduction, and reduction in terms of cellulite, all with one system."
