What is Juvederm?

Manufactured by Allergen, the makers of BOTOX, Juvederm XC is a smooth gel facial filler that is based on cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid(HA). Featuring Hylacross technology, this non-animal dermal filler also includes lidocaine, a mild local anesthetic, which increases patient comfort. Juvederm is the only facial filler that FDA approved for results up to 1 year with only one treatment.

There are two formulas of Juvederm available to address wrinkles and loss of volume in the nasolabial folds (smile lines), around the mouth (Marionette Lines) and above the upper lip (Vertical Lines):

  • Juvederm XC
  • Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

How Does Juvederm Work?

Youthful looking skin naturally contains hyaluronic acids, a molecule that binds and absorbs water to keep skin looking supple, hydrated and full of volume. As we age, the naturally occurring hyaluronic acids are reduced causing volume loss, wrinkles and folds. When injected, Juvederm is a a smooth gel hyaluronic acid based filler that replaces the volume loss, smoothing away the unwanted wrinkle or fold.

Uniquely formulated, Juvederm offers natural-looking, smooth and long-lasting results. The two formulas, Juvederm XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, may aid in the appearance of Smile Lines (Nasolabial Folds), Marionette Lines (lines at the corner of the mouth) and Vertical Lines (lines above the lips). While the Juvederm XC contours and adds volume to wrinkles and folds, the Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is more suitable for deeper wrinkles and folds.

What Will Happen At My Juvederm Treatment?

The treatment will take approximately 15 minutes in which Juvederm will be injected with a fine needle directly under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis. The physician may choose to anesthetize the area in which the injection will occur but Juvederm XC also contains lidocaine, which is also and anesthetic, increasing patient comfort.

Most patients report immediate results post-treatment.
