Another device promising to remove fat without injections or surgery has appeared in the aesthetic market. According to the company's website, The i-Lipo emits low levels of laser energy, which creates a chemical signal in the fat cells, breaking down the stored triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol and releasing them though channels in the cell membranes. The fatty acids and glycerol are then transported around the body to the tissues that will use them during metabolism to create energy.

Dr. Steven Shapiro, a dermatologist in Palm Beach Gardens Florida says about the i-Lipo, "Patients have reported that their clothes fit looser after the treatment and we have our measurements that show change." Shapiro goes on to say, "We do 8 treatments and what they walk out with after one treatment is what they're coming back in with for the next treatment so during a course of therapy, the results are staying which is important."
Dr. Shapiro describes the ideal i-Lipo candidate, "Somebody who has a little bit of lose fat in a contained area like the abdomen, the arms, the thighs but basically were looking for that person who is in good health. We're not treating patients who are morbidly obese, but someone who is typically middle aged and in relatively good shape. They tend to get the best results."

The DoctorsTV show recently aired a segment where plastic surgeon Stephen Ronan describes the i-Lipo as using multiple lasers that cause the fat to dump into the blood stream. Dr. Ronan claims in the segment that with one procedure they will remove about an inch of circumference.
How much does iLipo cost?
Prices vary by doctor and the area being treated but expect to pay $2,000 to $3,000 for a series of 8 treatments.
