  1. The Couch/In Front of the TV
This one should be a no-brainer, the term "Couch Potato" did not come into existence without good reason. Studies released in an article about childhood obesity published in Science Daily suggested that limiting the time a child spent in front of the television could decrease their risk of obesity. The same applies to adults - it's really hard to be active on the couch so get off it and get moving!

  2. Office Parties
We're not suggesting that you become a shut in, but do take caution. You know that Nutri-System doesn't cater at office parties. It is more likely that the local pizza place has that honor. Alcohol is readily poured and donuts, cakes, and cookies are abound, just begging to be gobbled up. Try to not give into peer pressure by bringing your own beverage, such as water and have a healthy bar or snack ready to stave off the visually induced hunger. Your best bet is to keep it to a minimum and know that the more time you spend around free office food, the more likely you to consume it.

  3. Family Gatherings
First off, we hope that you are able to spend as much time with your family as possible because family is our biggest blessing. These people love you. That being said, think about it. Those ten pounds you seem to gain over every holiday - where exactly are you eating all that food? The main culprit is family gatherings. Be aware that family gatherings are laden with fattening food and chances are you will be pressured to eat and eat a lot of it. Be ready to politely decline or exercise strong portion control.

  4. The Movies
Dinner and a movie. Popcorn and a movie. It's just seems so natural. However, it is rare indeed to find healthy food or snacks at the cinema. Not to mention the astronomical portion sizes! Particularly if you're a frequent movie-goer, either sneak in your own butter-free popcorn and some clean snacks or make it a habit not to eat at the movies.

  5. In Front of the Computer
When you're in front of the computer, Googling up a storm, you may unwittingly reach for a bag of chips or crackers and before you know it, the entire bag is gone. People tend to eat more when they are distracted so take time to sit down and eat your food, without trying to multitask. Also, with so many entertainment options online, the computer can lure you in for hours at a time, preventing you from doing any sort of physical activity. Limit yourself to an hour or so a day and try to spend the rest of your free time doing something that involves movement other than clicking.

We're not saying you should avoid these places completely, obviously that would be impossible. But knowledge is power and you can control what you eat. Don't fall prey to these traps that encourage you to eat badly. Instead, limit your time at these places, know your healthier alternatives and you'll be able to stick to your weight loss guns!
