- Caffeine
We probably don't have to tell you that caffeine gives you energy. Our society is rampant with avid coffee drinkers that refuse to start a day without at least three espressos. We definitely don't recommend that. However, moderation is key. Caffeine is very helpful in increasing awareness. The effects are short term but it can get you through a boring job. Be careful though, too much will have you jittery and uncomfortable. - B Vitamins
B vitamins help your body attain energy from carbohydrates, fats, protein, and anything else you take in. Some B vitamins are essential for brain function. Vitamin B12 is one of the most recommended vitamins for energy. Available in drug stores and vitamin supplement stores nationwide. - Natural Sugars
According to WebMD.com, natural sugars in fruits are great for a jolt of energy and also aid in memory and focus. This is what your body uses for a natural boost of energy. Still, too much of anything can be a bad thing. Don't down a whole basket of fruit or you'll be way to hyper and soon after, dead asleep! - Fish Oils
Fish oils and the essential fatty acids they provide are fantastic for enhancing and sustaining mental functions, especially as we age. Unfortunately, memory starts to deteriorate as we get older but these great little vitamins help to keep the brain going strong. With consistent use, they have been proven to decrease the risk of mental deterioration. You don't have to go out and buy sometimes expensive fish oil supplements. Shockingly enough, you can actually get fish oils from adding fish to your diet! - Dark Chocolate
Yes, we said chocolate. You can eat up to an ounce a day of dark chocolate and receive the benefits of increased focus and energy from the natural caffeine - without the damage from calories and sugar of other types of chocolate. Antioxidants are our body's natural anti-age ammunition and help us fight the wear and tear of years and stress.
You can get some of the aforementioned in foods and the rest are available in supplement form. You don't have to chug an energy drink or down a gazillion coffees a day just to get energy. Sometimes, going back to basics is key: nature provides the answers to many of the problems we try to fix with processed options.
