17 Day Diet Participants Reveal Results of Cycle 2

Team Dr. Phil and Team The Doctors reveal their weight loss results from the second phase of the 17 Day Diet.

Dr. Mike Moreno previewed his 17 Day Diet plan on The Doctors in January. Working with Dr. Phil, two teams were created - team Dr. Phil and team The Doctors. Today, the results of the second cycle of the plan were announced with team Dr. Phil coming out on top yet again.

The 17 Day Diet plan works on a 4 phase cycle. The first three - Accelerate, Activate and Achieve - are each 17 days long and the final phase, Arrive, is meant to be a lifelong eating plan.
  • Accelerate During the first 17 days, dieters cleanse their bodies to remove unneeded sugars in the foods they eat. The acceleration process boosts weight loss because fat is being burned rather than stored, and some dieters can lose up to 15 pounds in this first cycle. Foods include Greek yogurt, eggs, fish, chicken, green tea, fresh vegetables and fruit.

  • Activate For the next 17 day cycle, dieters retrain and activate their metabolism by changing their caloric consumption and stimulating fat burn so that weight loss is maintained. Dieters add in lean meats, natural starches and starchy vegetables, shellfish and legumes during this cycle.

  • Achieve In this last 17 day stretch, dieters develop healthy eating habits and every food group is represented. The plan emphasizes non-starchy vegetables and lean proteins, and the amount of exercise is increased. Foods like poultry and high fiber pastas are added, and one alcoholic drink per day is allowed.

  • Arrive Finally, Dr. Moreno shares an eating plan to keep participants on the right track for life. Dieters eat healthy throughout the week, but from Friday night until Sunday night, dieters can enjoy their favorite foods and meals in moderation.
Next we'll see the results of the Achieve phase of the plan where participants will start introducing foods like high-fiber pastas and can have a drink daily.
