A new book offers weight loss tips you probably never heard of, like using cold therapy and binging once a week.

Author Timothy Ferriss is talking to Dr. Oz today about his new book, The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman. Although it might sound like a bit of a reach, Ferriss says that it really is possible to lose weight, and fast, in only 4 hours a week.

Ferriss says that he made himself a human guinea pig, and he strove to understand which are the smallest possible changes we can make to produce the biggest changes. He believes he's found the answer, but many disagree, feeling that his weight loss methods are unsound and possibly even dangerous. He promises that people can lose 20 pounds in 30 days.

There are several tips recommended in the book, one of which is ice therapy. Ferriss says that using ice can increase fat burn by 300%. He says that ice can increase the output of helpful weight loss hormones. You just need to drink 500 ml of ice water in the morning, and take a cold shower in the morning as well. Also, at night, place an ice pack on the back of the neck or top of the back for about 30 minutes. Those who want to get really aggressive may even want to sit in an ice bath up to the waist for 10 minutes, 3 times a week.

Another of Ferriss' weight loss strategies is to eat 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up. He says this is the most important because it starts the day with fat burning hormones, and can also help you avoid the slump many feel after lunch. While you could get it by eating 5 eggs, you can also mix it up and add in sausage or have a protein shake instead.

The last idea Ferriss shared with Dr. Oz is to have a binge day. He says that by spiking calories once a week, not only do you increase fat burn, but you also allow the comfort foods that help people stick to their diet. There are ways to help avoid the blood sugar spike, such as drinking grapefruit juice before the binge.

Ferriss asserts that by sticking to this plan, you can not only burn more fat and calories, but even have better sex and be a better athlete. The book is available online and in stores.
