Dr. John Kennedy Demonstrates Stress Eliminating BREATHE Technique on The Doctors

Cardiologist and author John M. Kennedy, MD, FACC demonstrated his BREATHE Technique based on the teachings of his book The 15 Minute Heart Cure that naturally reduces stress

Dr. Kennedy explained the differences between the two different types of stress, chronic and acute, and how they affect our bodies. Chronic stress is the stress we typically experience on an ongoing daily basis, which can be very harmful to our bodies. Acute stress is sudden (think of a car back firing or a balloon popping) and is only harmful when our bodies are in real bad shape.

Stress can trigger a heart attack by causing a tear in the inner wall of an artery. Weakened by cholesterol and fatty build up, an artery wall will tear if blood pressure gets too high. To repair this tear, the body will form a clot; the clot in turn blocks blood flow through artery causing a heart attack.

To combat stress, Dr. Kennedy's BREATHE? technique combines two proven forms of relaxation: guided imagery and breath work, putting a modern spin on ancient wisdom. Both of these techniques elicit the "relaxation response" which is the opposite of the "stress response". When practiced regularly, like toning your muscles in the gym, people develop a special neural network that will help you focus and find a sense of calm when faced with one of life's unexpected stressful challenges. The BREATHE? Technique can be used to help heal and protect hearts as well as help people focus and concentrate. It has been used successfully in health, business, academics and athletics.

Dr. Kennedy is on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association and speaks regularly on their behalf. He lectures regularly on the subject of stress and its impact on our heart, and has helped companies educate employees on how to manage stress in the workplace. His book, The 15 Minute Heart Cure: The Natural Way to Release Stress and Heal Your Heart in Just Minutes a Day, discusses the importance of recognizing the constant communication which occurs between the heart and brain and help you to listen to and hear "the conversation" between these two vital organs.

"Our global economy, 12-hour work days and pressure to accomplish more in less time make stress part of our everyday lives. Unfortunately, if we fail to recognize stress, over time it can wreak havoc on our cardiovascular system," says Dr. Kennedy.
