Exercise is critical for staying in shape and keeping your muscles working. It can seem though that exercise is costly. Jillian Michaels stops by The Doctors today with some great tips for putting together an at-home gym for free.

  • Use Your Body

Using your own natural resistance is a great way to exercise. Push ups, sit ups, lunges and more can all be done without spending a penny. Remember to use good form and you can whip yourself into shape in no time.

  • Glide on Hand Towels

Jillian recommends using two hand towels for working out, and not to dry your face with. With the help of an audience member, she demonstrates how the towels allow your feet to glide across the floor. She shows getting into plank position with your feet on the towel and working different muscle groups as you slide forward and back while supporting yourself.

  • Chairs For Support

Use a chair to provide height, and not for changing a light bulb. Place your hands on the seat of the chair and lower yourself, like doing a push up in reverse. This exercise works the back of the arms and can give you a toned and fit looking upper body.

  • Buckets and Jugs For Weights

Using your mop bucket, fill it with dirt or sand for added weight. Jillian recommends holding the bucket while you do lunges and squats for added resistance when working the lower body. To work the biceps, use milk jugs filled with water as weights.

You can get the workout experience right in your own home. Don't worry about spending a lot of money, just take some time and get creative with what you have. Costly gym memberships and equipment aren't necessary, only moving is.
