Giving in to a craving can kill your hard work so try these tips the next time you find yourself facing a tough one.

It's 10:00pm, you've eaten dinner, the kids are in bed and you'll be going to sleep soon, and that's when it happens. A craving. That oh-so-hard-to-resist test of willpower that pits all of your hard work and determination up against your taste buds and their desire for fried foods or chocolate. Instead of giving in, try these little tricks to get your mind off of the craving and keep you on track.

  1. Brush Your Teeth - Most often, you brush your teeth following a meal so when a craving strikes, grab your brush. Your brain associates brushing your teeth with being full or feeling like you just ate, so brushing while craving will trick your brain and keep the craving away.

  2. Drink Some Water - Chugging back some water will make your stomach feel more full and you won't want to eat, not to mention all of the benefits that come with drinking water. Get closer to the 8-glasses a day goal and boost your willpower at the same time.

  3. 5 Minute Workout - Get your heart going by dancing around or doing jumping jacks for a few minutes. Distract your mind from the cravings by focusing on your coordination, and get in some more exercise too.

  4. Switch up Your Routine - If you find that you get cravings at a certain time of day or while doing a specific task, change up your schedule or find a different way to do that task. Avoiding the situations that spark your cravings can help you avoid the craving altogether.

  5. Call for Backup - Call up your BFF or diet buddy and talk about your day, or maybe reflect on the hard work you did to adopt a more healthy lifestyle. Sharing your craving and discussing the work you've done will help your willpower win out.

Keeping these tips in mind can help you make the healthy lifestyle change you need, and over time, the cravings will get easier and easier, and maybe change altogether. A craving for fruits and veggies is a good one to give into.
