Sacramento Plastic Surgeon Embraces Innovative Technologies

A recent study from a leading organization of plastic surgeons indicates a 162 percent increase in cosmetic surgery since 1997. One Sacramento plastic surgeon is using his experience and skills combined with new technologies to treat patients who want to improve their appearance without anyone knowing they’ve “had work done.”

photo of dr. charles perry (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 6, 2009 -- New statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery shows more than 10.2 million surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2008. That's a 162 percent jump from the data first collected by the ASAPS in 1997. The study indicates the number one most performed surgical enhancement procedure was breast augmentation ? with more than 355,671 cited in the report - followed by liposuction and eyelid surgery. For non-surgical enhancement procedures, BOTOX? Cosmetic led the way with 2,464, 123 procedures. Laser hair removal came in second with 1,280,964. Overall, 92 percent of cosmetic procedures were undergone by women, with men making up the rest.

Dr. Charles Perry is the head of a Sacramento plastic surgery practice called Chrysalis Cosmetics. Dr. Perry says patients at his practice come from across the demographic spectrum, and most who are considering cosmetic enhancement are looking for results that provide a noticeable improvement, but don't give away the fact that the patient has undergone treatment. And Dr. Perry says aesthetic enhancement is not just about how one looks, but also how it can impact their self-esteem and give them a better view of themselves. "One of the benefits of being a cosmetic surgeon is being able to see the transformation people undergo after their procedure. It's amazing to see what a little fine-tuning or enhancing an area of the body can do for someone's self-confidence."

Dr. Perry's practice encompasses a large number of procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, and he says with the advent of new and ever-evolving technologies in the field of plastic surgery, patients can now get a much clearer idea of the outcomes of procedures before even setting foot in the operating room. In fact, Chrysalis Cosmetics is now using technology such as the Portrait 3D Surgical Simulation Platform, a system designed to give patients considering breast augmentation a computer-generated image of how their breasts will likely appear after implants have been placed.

New techniques, innovations, and treatments are also giving patients more opportunities to enhance facial skin and structure. Dr. Perry says that Sacramento facelift patients and those who are trying to diminish the signs of aging and damaged skin in the face now have a variety of new options, both surgical and non-surgical, to help them look more youthful and refreshed ? without the appearance of having 'work done.' "At Chrysalis Cosmetics, when we approach facial rejuvenation we really want to achieve something that's natural."

As reflected in the study from the ASAPS, injectable treatments such as BOTOX? Cosmetic are very common for those patients who want more subtle, less invasive aesthetic enhancement. But, procedures like rhinoplasty for Sacramento patients wanting to change the shape and structure of the nose are also popular. And Dr. Perry says his focus is to make sure even the more invasive enhancement options like rhinoplasty result in a look that's improved, but without any noticeable signs that surgery has been performed. "The goal of rhinoplasty is to provide more harmony to the face. When a good rhinoplasty's been done, often, no one will know. But, they'll notice other things about your looks: they'll notice your eyes more, your smile more. Those are the kind of compliments that I love to hear from patients."
