Thermage is a skin tightening device that uses radio frequency (RF) energy to stimulate the growth of collagen and tighten the skin. As we age, collagen depletes and skin sags and wrinkles. For many years, the only solution was an invasive and painful facelift but that's not the case anymore. Patients can enjoy younger looking skin without the pain and downtime. Good Morning America puts the treatment on display tomorrow, February 9, 2011 as Dr. Debra Jaliman of New York performs the treatment and shows before and after images of what Thermage can do.
The latest from the Thermage family of products is the Thermage CPT. It adds to the original with Comfort Pulse Technology designed to make the treatment more comfortable for patients. There is a vibration and cooling burst that accompanies each pulse of RF energy, tricking the mind into feeling the vibration and the cold rather than the heat.

Some physicians feel that the new CPT improves on the tightening in the jowl and neck area, but they also like the CPT because they can raise the settings for a more aggressive treatment while still sparing the patient pain.
While most patients request it for treatment on the face, Thermage can be used nearly all over the body and in some cases, for fat compression of the abdomen.

There is little to no downtime at all and patients will generally see their final results in 3-6 months as the collagen continues to regrow. Many patients enjoy the slower results because it tends to be more natural and fewer people notice that any cosmetic procedure has been done. Proper expectations are needed from the patient side. While Thermage does offer wrinkle reduction and skin tightening, it isn't a replacement for facelift.
