Andrew Jacono, M.D., F.A.C.S., director of the New York Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery, reviews jaw augmentation as the next big cosmetic surgery trend for men in 2014.
The top five surgical procedures for men last year were liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, breast reduction to treat enlarged male breast, and otoplasty (ear surgery), Dr. Jacono sees a rise in men seeking gonial angle (jawline) implants in his practice.
Dr. Jacono said, “You’ll notice that the world’s most handsome celebrities, including Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and David Beckham, have one thing in common – a very angular jawline. Due to the constant exposure of these celebs in entertainment weeklies, gossip sites and social media, we’ve come to regard these celebrities as our standards of beauty, and as a result, procedures to recreate their strong jawlines have become increasingly popular.”
The “Golden Proportion” explains why we perceive a strong jaw to be attractive in men. A unique ratio accepted globally as the standard in beauty, the “Golden Proportion” describes the ideal relationship regarding length and proportion within individual facial features or the relationship of different features to each other. For men, the right balance brings more masculinity to the face.
