Fat Transfer Helps Breast Reconstruction Patients After Pre-Emptive Mastectomies

Fat Transfer Helps Breast Reconstruction Patients After Pre-Emptive MastectomiesMore women are proactively choosing to get tested for the BRCA 1 or 2 mutations. Many of those who test positive are choosing a pre-emptive mastectomy and more surgeons are helping to fill that difficult void for women.

Dr. Jeffrey Hartog, director of the Breast Center at the Bougainvillea Clinique, is one such plastic surgeon looking to help women proactively fight breast cancer through pre-emptive mastectomies and subsequent breast reconstruction and breast augmentation. He established The Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park which is a state-licensed and Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery center, which means it is not an office surgery facility.

“Having access to a surgery center such as ours allows for women to undergo a prophylactic mastectomy and begin breast reconstruction immediately,” said Hartog. “Many women don’t know that this option is available to them, nor do they know their breast reconstruction options.”
