Palomer Lux2940 is a gentler laser resurfacing procedure then it's predecessors. This procedure not only causes less skin damage than CO2 lasers, but the Lux2940 offers much shorter downtime (2 to 4 days) and is considerably less painful. According to Dr. Brooke R. Seckel, M.D. "The Lux2940 fractional device will bring the treatment of photo damage to a new level."

The Lux2940 can be used in a variety of procedures. Lip resurfacing of lipstick lines and wrinkles can be done in about 5 minutes with numbing cream. The lips will be red for about two to three days and you can wear makeup by day 4. Full face treatments for wrinkle removal and removal of face lines, smile lines, and cheek lines can be done in the office with just four to five days down time. It can also be used to remove crow's feet around the eyes.

Older CO2 lasers vaporize a whole large patch of skin, layer by layer. The damaged skin will heal from the remaining sweat glands in the deepest parts of the skin. Since the healthy tissue was so deep, far from the damaged skin, healing time was great. The Palomar Lux2940 (Ablative Fractional Resurfacing) uses micro beams; fractionated beams that leave treated areas of skin between untreated areas which penetrate deeply enough to stimulate new collagen formation. This also allows the heating of deeper tissues, like scars and really deep wrinkles, much more safely than bulk heating. This reduces down time from the 2 weeks for CO2 lasers to three to four days for Palomar Lux2940. This gentler process will create a much easier experience when turning to a skin resurfacing procedure.
