Strength Training

Increasing your crunches from 200 to 2000 isn't going to cut it. Yes, it will make your abdominal area tighter, but unless you pro-actively target your belly fat, those abs of steel will remain hidden under a layer of goo. Strength training has various benefits, not the least of which is it helps to burn fat. When you do strength training, your muscles begin to burn fat for fuel. The more fuel they need, the more fat they burn. So, instead of clocking another hour on the treadmill or doing crunches to exhaustion, do a little weight-lifting to increase the burn.

Eat More Fat-Burning Foods

If it's a flatter tummy you want, you need to make sure you are eating the right foods. Steer clear of fatty, fried or greasy foods, all of this is going to make a bee-line straight to your gut. Instead, indulge in foods that help promote fat loss. These include more green, leafy vegetables, beans (soy beans are an excellent choice), citrus fruits or other high-protein options. Another benefit to a healthier diet is that you are bound to lose weight as a result, and that too helps to minimize a big belly.

Try to Live Stress-Free

In today's world, this is probably easier said than done, but stress can make you fat. When you experience stress, the body produces a hormone chemical called cortisol. Cortisol offends on a variety of different levels; it causes an unexpected spike in your appetite and it increases the production of fat in your body. Can you guess where it sends this excess fat? You guessed it, around your belly area. If your home or work life is stressful, consider taking up yoga. Drink Enough Water

You've heard it before, and you're hearing it again. You need to drink enough water, a minimum of 3 liters daily. Water helps keep your organism in top form, and helps to flush out toxins that accumulate in the body. Just can't get a taste for water? Get Enough Sleep

Your body needs sufficient rest. If you want your body to perform for you, then treat it right. Get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. A body that is tired is not performing at its best. Fatigue can lead to an imbalance and before you know it, you're reaching for a candy bar to get some "energy." Faulty thinking leads to faulty results.

Limit Your Alcohol Consumption

Alcoholic drinks are not your friend. If you want results, you need to cut back or eliminate alcohol altogether. Most drinks are either loaded with calories or sugar or both. Save the drinking for the beach!
