As recently seen on The Doctors, board certified dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban visits the set to treat a patient with the IPL therapy. The patient had skin issues such as redness, brown spots and broken capillaries that gave her a constant look of red skin.

"This technology uses heat to heal the skin to even out the complexion," says Dr. Shamban. Intense pulsed light (IPL) emits a particular wavelength that seeks out a specific color in the dermis, in this case, the redness in the broken blood vessels explains Dr. Drew Ordon. The treatment is relatively painless.

According to Dr. Ordon, the IPL focuses on the redness, causing the blood vessels to blow up or explode after which our body flushes it out as a defense mechanism. It is important to point out that immediately after treatment, patients will experience some redness - which shows the therapy has worked and heat has been absorbed. Final results will be apparent over the course the next two weeks as the blood vessels seal and the brown spots lift, revealing a more even complexion and youthful skin.
