As explained today on The Doctors, the technician applies a gel pack to the treatment area to protect the skin, which is suctioned inside a hand piece that has a cooling plate on either side. The plates drop the temperature to just above freezing for one hour. As the fat cells crystallize and die, patients see an improvement over the next couple of months.
