Fine lines, wrinkles and loose skin are a fact of aging, but scientific breakthroughs in recent years have led to advanced methods of skin tightening that help to reverse these signs of aging. Patients have options now that spare them the expense and pain of surgical procedures like facelifts and offer lasting results. Pelleve uses radio frequency (RF) to stimulate collagen growth so the skin appears tighter and more youthful. "The magic of this device is that it heats up the skin, but it does so very gently," says Dr. Robert Burke, a cosmetic surgeon who offers Pelleve in Ann Arbor, MI. He's had the device for 3 weeks and is thrilled with what he's seen so far. Dr. Burke says that the RF energy from this device is so gentle, patients report little to no pain, and don't have a long period of downtime following treatment. "There is no patient discomfort, there's no healing, there's nothing you need to do special. I couldn't think of anything that's easier."

Pelleve also delivers results. According to Dr. Burke, he's seeing results in 100% of the patients he's treated, and he's also able to treat a wider range of patients than before. "One problem that we've had is women with thin lips who have the vertical lines there and they want fillers. We've tried fillers on them, but the results can look artificial, and sometimes they don't want laser resurfacing but they do want a treatment that allows them to heal instantly. Well now with Pelleve, we've even treated those patients and gotten a result."

He says that Pelleve is a good option for patients who need a quick turnaround from their procedure. Ideally, patients undergo 3 treatments about 3-4 weeks apart, but Dr. Burke says he's seen results after the first treatment. The amount of time per session and price vary greatly depending on the area being treated, from around $300-$400 for the upper lip to $900 or more for the face and forehead area.

Pelleve is FDA approved for the cosmetic correction of mild to moderate facial wrinkles for certain skin types. According to the manufacturer, some patients may experience some redness and swelling in the treatment area which is typically resolved within 24 hours.
