If you want to be rid of dark under eye circles and the tired, hollowed look - and you want to find a balance between cucumbers and surgical treatments - facial fillers may be a good solution for you. As demonstrated today on The Dr. Oz Show, hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers are being used off-label to treat undereye aging concerns.
Dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie demonstrated this procedure live on stage and says that HA fillers are very safe when used by a trained professional. She points out that we all have hyaluronic acid in our bodies, "and you can't be allergic to it," she says. HA's function in the skin is to maintain volume and pliability. The unique property of this acid is its ability to bind with water molecules up to 1000 times its original size, making it an excellent choice for a filler. Because it can bind with water, it is extremely safe when eliminated with regular body waste over time.
Dr. Downie first applied a numbing cream under the patient's eyes and let it sit for about an hour to fully numb the treatment area. Dr. Downie then injects Restylane, one of many HA filler options, which also include Juvederm and Perlane. She says that Restylane lasts about 8 months to a year with some patients even seeing results as long as 2 years after treatment.
