Coffee: A Quick At-Home Cellulite Treatment?

Your cellulite solution may be in the kitchen, but if not, your cosmetic physician can help.

Cellulite is easy to get, but hard to lose, and women are constantly looking for a solution to make their thighs and butt smooth again. It's been estimated that more than 80% of women have cellulite somewhere, and it affects both thin and overweight women. Today on The Doctors, Liz Vaccariello, editor-in-chief of Prevention magazine, discussed a way to reuse coffee grounds for a cellulite reduction treatment.

Liz says to mix the grounds with some cooking oil until it is moistened throughout and then place the mixture on the treatment area. The grounds and your skin are wrapped in plastic wrap and you leave it on for 15-30 minutes. The idea is that the caffeine in coffee is a diuretic and can affect the cellulite to improve its appearance.

If you're looking for a more aggressive treatment, your aesthetic physician has several options available. Reaction by Viora uses radio frequency (RF) energy to affect the cellulite on a deeper level for a more effective treatment. "We know that cellulite involves multiple layers of the skin, including fat cells that are in an abnormal location in the dermis as well as an irregular arrangement down in the deeper fat layer of the tissue," says renowned New York dermatologist Dr. Neil Sadick. "So, by having a newer technology like Reaction by Viora that can target both mid-dermal as well as subcutaneous fat cell targets - and also be able to heat the surrounding septum around fat cells - we are able to produce a more effective cellulite outcome for our patients."

Velashape is another popular treatment for cellulite and uses a combination of RF energy and infrared light to smooth out the skin. This treatment is well known amongst celebrities and has been featured on the reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians as both Kim Kardashian and sister Khloe Kardashian-Odom have had the treatment done. Dr. Shalini Kapoor-Grover of REVIVE: Beverly Hills Medical Institute says, "For women already in great shape, VelaShape helps smooth and contour curves.... My VelaShape patients include men and women looking to not only smooth the top layer of the skin but also to even out stubborn pockets of fat on the thighs, buttocks, stomach, back and arms that are not reduced with diet and exercise alone."

These treatments also offer the added benefit of circumferential reduction, so not only are your thighs smoother, they are also smaller. They also require multiple visits to the physician to see final results, so you do have to put a little time in, but many patients see significant improvement.
