For facial plastic surgeons, the goal is to reverse the signs of aging with a natural, beautiful result. The industry has searched for years for the 'holy grail' of cosmetic procedures, one that offers beautiful, natural, permanent results with little downtime, cost and discomfort. One physician believes he's found it.
The AccuLift was co-developed by Dr. David Holcomb, a Sarasota, FL based facial plastic surgeon. He introduced this procedure to physicians from around the world at the 30th annual meeting of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) in Phoenix, AZ, as well as the 10th International Symposium of Facial Plastic Surgery in Hollywood, FL. The procedure, also known as Laser Assisted Facial Contouring (LAFC) was well received and is being called the future of facial contouring.
The procedure is similar in some ways to laser lipo, but rather than addressing the body, a laser is used to melt the descended fat that accumulates in the midface, along the jawline and under the chin as we age. Using the AccuSculpt laser, the super thin fiberoptic laser is inserted under the skin through a tiny incision then both melts the fat and tightens the skin. Previous procedures that attempt to lift or reposition descended fat in the face have limited long-term success, and attempts to camouflage well-formed nasolabial folds or jowls with injectable fillers may leave the patient looking over-filled.
AccuLift is often coupled with the use of facial fillers so that fat is removed from specific areas that are often affected by age and volume is added to other areas where it can be most beneficial. Both procedures take approximately thirty minutes and can deliver fabulous results. Dr. Holcomb says, "The AccuLift procedure delivers beautiful, natural-looking results, and the extremely precise AccuSculpt laser allows us to contour the face safely and effectively," concludes Dr. Holcomb. "This is truly the new frontier of facial rejuvenation!"
