With the advent of medical spa procedures such as Injectables and Laser Skin Resurfacing, patients that have had facial surgery can now improve the quality and longevity of their results with med spa treatments.
"Procedures like facelifts and eyelid surgery already create results that last many years, but every patient wants to make sure those benefits last as long as possible," notes San Jose based plastic surgeon, Dr. Daryl Hoffman."I'm finding that medical spa treatments give me some of the best ways to do that. It's exciting that my patients are seeing benefits with the help of something as simple as an injectable treatment, for instance."
While the best maintenance program varies from each patient, Dr. Hoffman believes that the best options typically fall into two categories: Injectables and Laser Skin Resurfacing. "These treatments can improve the health and appearance of the skin to maintain what the face lift already accomplished," explains Dr. Hoffman. "There's a qualitative benefit because the results look more complete, but the big attraction is the chance to make sure that impressive results stay impressive for as long as possible."
As we get older, regardless of any facial work we may have gotten in the past, skin will begin to lost laxity, elasticity and start to sag again. Although not at the same rate as those who have not had facial surgery, the truth of the matter is a tune-up may be necessary and the options below are far more attractive than going under the knife again.
Injectables such as BOTOX, Juvederm, Sculptra or Radiesse work by temporarily restoring volume to the dermis and some may even stimulate natural collagen production. While injectables can be used in lieu of facial surgery, results typically last a year or less. When adding injectables to prolong facial surgery, the skin is kept looking fresher for a longer period of time.
Recent advances made to laser skin resurfacing technology, such as Fraxel, make this skin tightening med spa procedure a great follow-up to facial surgery. By eliminating the top layers of damaged or dead skin, laser skin resurfacing reveals tighter, smoother skin and results continue over time, as the procedure stimulates collagen.
"A face lift can delay aging significantly, but a good surgeon will educate patients honestly about the limitations of each procedure right along with the benefits," Dr. Hoffman notes. "Surgical face lift is the gold standard for results that last for years, and we are seeing some truly impressive results with these procedure pairings, but regardless of the treatment package someone is offering, choosing a trustworthy surgeon still has to be your foremost priority."
