So, more and more?men are turning to NIPS/ tucks and implants to achieve perfection.
In a recent phenomenon, men now represent a growing segment of the aesthetic surgery market. According to a February, 2008 consumer survey, 57% of men approve of cosmetic surgery, with 20% saying they would consider plastic surgery. Surprisingly, seventy-nine percent (79%) of American men surveyed say they would not be embarrassed if people, in addition to their family and close friends knew they had undergone cosmetic surgery. Renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Nikolov of The Nilolov Center in Beverly Hills, states "approximately 20% of my facelift patients are men."
However, male plastic surgery requires a different set of rules than for women; doctors must take into account factors such as skin thickness, beard growth, skin type and body type. Dr. Nicholas Nikolov, M.D., states "Men are interested in cosmetic surgery, but many times they wouldn't take the next step due to stigma or [fear of] being judged. Now, there are procedures that are swaying men toward cosmetic surgery that have grabbed their attention because they are more acceptable."
Dr. Nikolov continues, "In this competitive job market, many men want to appear more youthful. As a result, they become more aware of the importance of good nutrition and exercise. Many times, they also seek cosmetic surgery to further enhance their appearance." For men, the abdomen, the chin, neck and even the breast area are all likely problem areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.
And, women aren't the only ones worried about their breasts. Men are now seeking breast reduction surgeries if they suffer from gynecomastia, a condition more commonly known as "man-boobs" that affects between 40-60% of men. The cause for gynecomastia is really unknown, though some doctors have linked the increase in male breast size to female hormones in drinking water, and certain drugs. However these theories are currently unsubstantiated.
The procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts and you can also remove the excess skin, resulting in a flatter, firmer, more contoured chest that would rival Brad Pitt's finely chiseled torso.
For men who are looking for a facial overhaul, there are a bunch of options out there specifically for the boys-club. For more information, check out: www.drnikolov.com.
