Cellulite Reduction Becoming More Popular & More Possible

The most foreseeable advantage for women who want to reduce the appearance of cellulite is the heightened availability of cellulite reduction procedures including the Thermage Cellulite Treatment, Alma Accent Laser, SmoothShapes and VelaShape.

According to a recent report by the Millennium Research Group (MRG), the cellulite reduction device market was worth almost $80 million in 2007, and that number is expected to grow to over $215 million by 2012. So what does that mean for the reported 85% of women who live with the unsightly dimples? The most foreseeable advantage for women who want to reduce the appearance of cellulite is the heightened availability of cellulite reduction procedures.

Several new products and devices have been introduced to the public over the past year. These include the Elem Medical SmoothShapes 100 system and the Thermage ThermaTip CL system, both launched in early 2008. The SmoothShapes system combines light and laser energy with vacuum massage for an enhanced cosmetic result, while the ThermaTip system uses radio frequency to restore collagen and improve circulation. New devices launched in 2007 include the Syneron VelaShape system, which uses bipolar radio frequency and infrared light, and the Alma Laser Accent RF, which uses Unipolar radio frequency technology. All of these newly introduced products claim to be highly effective in the temporary reduction of cellulite.

Also making it more possible and convenient for patients to receive cellulite reduction treatment is the addition of cellulite reduction to the services offered by medical providers. Until now, the main providers of cellulite reduction procedures were plastic surgeons and dermatologists. But, according to MRG, in 2007, cellulite reduction devices were purchased and used by obstetricians, gynecologists, general practitioners and medispas. It follows that more women will be willing and able to receive cellulite reduction treatment if it becomes readily available from their usual physician.
